The Travis Mills Foundation celebrated the opening of The Travis Mills Veterans Retreat this past weekend in Rome, Maine.  The Veterans Retreat is dedicated to helping combat-injured veterans and their families adapt to a new lifestyle. The Retreat sits on 17 acres of land on what was the Elizabeth Arden estate.  Construction of The Veterans Retreat was made possible through honorable donations from several individuals, groups, organizations and companies such as Windham Millwork Inc.  The project took approximately three years to complete and an estimated $3 million in donations.

Grand OpeningWindham Millwork donated all of the window casings, window sills, door casings, fireplace surrounds and base moldings for The Veterans Retreat, a value of around $10K.  The Veterans Retreat will be used to help veterans and their families adapt to a new lifestyle.  Approximately fifty families will visit this summer where they can swim, fish, tube, hunt and kayak free of charge.  The Veterans Retreat has everything you would want; A movie room, a spa room, a kids play room and even a library sponsored by Barbara Bush.

We appreciate our veterans and wanted to show that we support them.  We have employees who have served in the United States military and we all have family members that have served including Windham Millworks’ founder Walter Pulkkinen, who was a WWII veteran. We are a strong supporter of The Travis Mills Foundation and cannot wait to see veterans and their families utilize this space for years to come.
